Cheney survives, MTG getting booted out of leadership
Power sharing agreement finalized
A contentious meeting of House GOP put the spotlight on two scions of the divergent Republican paths.
Liz Cheney, born into The Establishment, refused to apologize for her impeachment vote against Trump. In Florida, Trump himself has been reportedly stoking the fire behind the scenes. According the Daily Beast he’s been writing out insults for politicians to use.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, meanwhile represents the path of Trump populism. She will be stripped of both leadership positions today after posts from her controversial online past surfaced. Channeling Obi Wan Kenobi on the Death Star, she warned her enemies that by striking her down she will only grow stronger.
“How stupid they are,” she told Secrets before Democrats on the House Rules Committee sat to vote on stripping her membership on two panels. “They don’t even realize they’re helping me. I’m pretty amazed at how dumb they are,” added the first-term member.
I hate to keep harping on this but it’s easily the biggest story to watch if you want to read the tea leaves on 2022.
Here are the physics by my view.
Hate it or love it, Trump’s brand (never-back-down populism) and coalition (white working class, tax-cut suits and positive traction with the minority vote) seems like a better bet than a return to a Romney/Ryan respectability model. Some have accepted that and others, like Cheney, simply refuse to believe that’s anything Trump related is a winning ticket.
And yet, it’s not what the DC GOP wants. On secret ballot they chose to keep Liz Cheney in leadership. Still, until we see another politician execute another model, the lemmings will always coalesce around the last thing that worked.

I'm often not on your wavelength but generally appreciate your confident and assertive POV. And on the Governator Newsom snafu, details matter and the snowball is picking up momentum. Like the Trumpster on a State level, he's abdicating responsibility to the Counties - sounds fair enough when you say it quickly. But the devil is in the details, and we're in the tower of babel. Some Counties are drinking his Koolaid "all things are good - enjoy your vaccines all my 65+ voting constituency... while others Counties are, "WFT- why are bumping up the teachers and staff getting vaccinated with the 65+ community when those 75+ while we are waiting, Waiting... WAITING??? So some Counties are now vaccinating 65+, others will futzing around with 75+, other bringing the Teachers/staff/janitors to the front of the line. So with the Counties left trying to "figure it out" like Trump did to the States, those promoting a the Governor recall with the latest SNAFU, may be reflecting on the demise of former Gov Davis... - MOON LIT NITE
Yeah, I’ve yet to really form my take on the vaccine rollout because I am generally curious to see which strategy works fastest. California is the largest in population and the third largest in square miles, so it should get a pretty big grain of salt IMO. Still if Florida continues to outpace the Golden State it will certainly not reflect well on ol’ Gav.

Pork? Tens of millions of individuals are suffering in this country, and small businesses are in no position to help them. If we had only paid people to stay home and small businesses to stay closed almost a year ago, this could have been as contained similar to, I don't know, Australia? But no, the economy is more important than lives here? Just like the UK and Brazil where they are the only other countries as screwed as we are, and you still want to make the have-nots suffer because the rich don't think it's fair? Are you rich, or are you acting against your own self interest here? The populace need funds, relief, or both, and they need it now, not after they sort out whatever the hell $GME did to Wall Street. Lack of relief is just further depressing the economy while we try to open things up months after should have been possible due to Drumpfs complete lack of response to the pandemic. Have you seen the news? Literally NO PLAN FOR DISTRIBUTING THE VACCINE in Drumpfs administration, even after falsely claiming responsibility for a vaccine that was developed in other countries. Bidens administration is having to build a plan from scratch a full 11 months after one should have already been formulated, and that is mainly due to the Drumpf administration systematically disassembling the pandemic response plans that actually existed before he took office. The fact that so many people can't see this has made me lose faith in the populace of this countly, but I've actually found that if I wanted to leave, no other country wants us, and I guess with good reason.
New Zealand nailed the response. We did the complete opposite. - BRIAN

Nowadays Dem's theme song is "Won't Get Fooled Again".
From what I understand Dems can use reconciliation twice this year and once more next year to force through legislation that will very quickly increase citizen's incomes and create jobs, making it more likely they'll check the "D" boxes on ballots in 2022.
You'd think our GOP brethren would want in on that. - GARY
Hey! Confident Democrats are back! How many weeks until we get our first “Permanent Majority” think piece?

Isn't a stimulus check the same as lowering taxes for one year? Basically, the govt is giving me back some of my money this year and taxes are not going down next year? Well, I'm saving that money to pay next year's taxes. - ABE NORMAL
In reality, yes. In perception, no. Stimulus is Uncle Sam slipping some cash in your pocket and saying “have a good time.” Tax cuts are a dulling of a ritual annual pain.

As a citizen of the great state of Tennessee, I am very happy to see our patron saint Dolly in the newsletter. However, I have to point out that she has made great efforts to remain apolitical. In the article she points out that she turned down the Medal of Freedom due to her husbands health and the ongoing pandemic, nothing to do with politics. She also says that she’s since heard from Joe Biden’s administration but "Now I feel like if I take it, I'll be doing politics, so I'm not sure."
I have been on a personal crusade since that article came out, ensuring that people understand it was NOT a political move on her part. She’s wonderful. As a public service announcement for your readers, if you have young children, you can receive a free children’s book a month from her charity, Imagination Library. Just go to: Check Availability - Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - DR WHISKEY
For sure. In deciding if I should give context to that story or post a cheeky boob GIF I figured it would be more on brand for Dolly to go with the joke. That being said she is not only a remarkable performer and songwriter (did ya know she wrote “I Will Always Love You?”) but a truly gifted humanitarian and apolitical guiding light. The podcast Dolly Parton’s America, if a big annoying, is well worth a listen.

Chinese/Canadian relations are getting heated again. This time it's because the Canadian Embassy ordered fly custom t-shirts with the Wu-Tang logo, only replace "Wu-Tang" with "Wuhan".
Now it turns out that the CCP isn't down with the thirty-six chambers and thought that the stylised W was a bat and it turns out that the CCP is sensitive about associating Wuhan with bats because...well...hey whatever, who am I to judge?, my Ukrainian Dad used to feed me something called "headcheese."
Anyway, this is what happens when diplomats try to be cool. Wu-Tang is for the children. - KEN
